Prediabetes and Diabetes

Prediabetes is marked by higher-than-normal fasting blood sugar or higher-than-normal blood sugar after eating. It’s most often the result of insulin resistance, a state in which the body doesn’t use the hormone insulin properly.

People with prediabetes are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and may also be at risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

  • Golden Rules of Healthy Eating When You Have Prediabetes-
  • Skip the sugary drinks. No sweet tea. No juice. No soda. No sweetened lemonade.
  • Pull back on portions. You still can eat many of the foods you like; just have smaller amounts of them
  • Fill up on fiber. Eat plenty of high-fiber foods, including vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains
  • Go for healthy grains. Fiber-rich grains such as brown rice are healthier choices than white rice and pasta.

Diabetes

To keep things simple, your main goal should be managing your blood sugar levels. It’s also important to eat foods that help prevent diabetes complications like heart disease.

Your diet can have a major role in preventing and managing diabetes.
